As I'm sure you are all aware the University of Virginia is in the middle of a rough patch. Several important voices are split in response to the Board of Visitor's/President Sullivan's decision to resign from the presidency at the university. This makes me wonder what direction the university will be moving in now. Should I be mad there seems to be a shady deal playing out?-the details of which are mostly unknown to the general public.
Aside from watching the news as much as possible I have some other thoughts: How will only the eighth president in university history be remembered? How does gender play into all of this? Who will replace her? How does the new president clean up a media firestorm like this? ARE THE ONLY TWO YEARS OF DIPLOMAS SIGNED BY SULLIVAN WORTH ANYTHING?(I only ask because my roommate has one hanging in our living room and my ebay account needs some ecitement) Is this as historically significant as I think it is?

I am back in Virginia. This morning I patched holes for four hours, drove 3 and a half, worked at Montpelier for four and am now back at my Charlottesville apartment. I'm exhausted. I will be working eight hours shifts here Saturday and Sunday, which will only pay my gas for coming. I know maintaining the job at Montpelier will pay off in the long run and I do enjoy doing it.
Finally, (THE EXCITING PART) last night I received word that I will be one of seven graduate students working on the new database of architecture that is sponsored by the Society of Architectural Historians. The database is called
ARCHIPEDIA. The graduate students are a diverse bunch of architectural historians, art historians, and architectural designers from four different schools. I will be representing UVA in the group ( rep rep [if I were a frat bro. I'd give this a WAH-HOO-WA] o.O). Check out the
BETA site here and eventually you will be able to add your own images that will help the field of architectural historians in their research.
Below: Society of Architectural Historians ARCHIPEDIA banner. I didn't make this nor is it mine.
