Avignon

I haven't Stopped in the last two days, and I'm both trying to grasp in my mind everything I saw/learned-trying to put it all in perspective, while trying to avoid the oncoming fever..Maybe some sickness is brewing. As for now as I organize my almost doubled photo file and hug tight to my vitamin C and water. I got to see a few things that I remember thinking in my survey classes that I would never have the opportunity to see. It gave me chills a couple times when I remember my Survey Professors commentary, and thinking that their thoughts were echoing in my head. In the hopes that I explain my weekend out in better detail I'm going to break it up into two parts. First(Friday) we went to Avignon. The highlights were the Palais de Papes, the castle that served as home 9 popes during the fourteenth century during what some call the 'Babylonian captivity'. I'm focusing one of my research papers on the expansion on the palace, and perhaps what influences from outside of France affected them. It is also the reason for the School of Avignon, a genre in painting, which happened because of the churches presents there. The City walls are also very intact and very fortifying still to this day. There is a clear divide between the oldest and newer parts. This is true not architecturally, but just because the wall is a very definite barrier. We (or rather I) couldn't resist a run out the Pont Saint Benezet. Tomorrow I'll upload many more pictures from my trip today from Orange,Le Pont Du Gard, and Nime.
