I'm in JACKSON!

http://img119.imageshack.us/img119/1074/bridgeatnightkq1.jpg

I just arrived at the 27th Annual SESAH[SoutheastChapterOFArchitecturalHistorians] Meeting. There is a huge list of scheduled paper presentations, many of my former classmates and current professors from SCAD are presenting. As I look through the abstracts that are in the program booklet many are catching my eye. It's going to be a great week-I'll try to keep you updated.

Ardsley Park-Chatham Crescent Project

The Ardsley Park-Chatham Crescent Project has become a new creature. We've been updating all of the research done to a webpage on Wordpress. This is going to be extremely useful for future projects dealing with the neighborhood, and is also going to be functional to serve the neighborhood groups into the future. The multiple tab system allows us to address and update multiple categories. The four of us have editorial access to update the material we've gone over to the site. You can literally keep track of our progress on the site. Check it out: http://ardsleyparkchathamcrescent.wordpress.com/

THE CONSPIRATOR

For all of you who aren't in Savannah. Robert Redford has been in town filming his new movie, "The Conspirator." The movie has a great cast, but I wanted to post some pictures that I took the other night while walking around downtown. The film is based on the Lincoln Assassination, which is the scene I saw being filmed. Below you can see pictures of the set while they're carrying a wounded President Lincoln out of the 'Ford theater'(or in this case a fake wooden facade) into a house across the street. They also covered the streets in a dirt/mulch substance to better set the time period. It was awesome.

3rd Annual SoBA Networking Social

I recently served as a panelist at the 3rd Annual School of the Building Arts Sophomore Career Networking Social Thursday night at the Pei Ling Chan Gallery. Six student panelist whose majors ranged including: three interior designers, a historic preservationist, an architect, and me as the architectural historian were on hand to discuss their internship experiences, and give positive insight to the internship process. Students also had the opportunity to ask questions, talk to advisors from career services, and of course network with fellow classmates.
Many valuable issues in concerns to the internship process were discussed including: lodging, salary, basic job requirements, location, personal obstacles faced, results and opportunities of employment that may have came out of the experience. Many attended the event, including students from other SCAD departments outside the School of the Building Arts.
I really enjoyed the panel format. It was very relaxing compared to just lecturing, and being the only one talking. It was also interesting to compare the internship duties, companies, and what experience everyone got.It felt nice also to be able to answer questions of younger students, I remember thinking about someday getting an internship, and the feeling of how overwhelming it was to get started.

My Architect-Trailer

Post Modern Poster Child

Does anyone smell an essay? I took this while I was in Victoria, B.C. this Summer.
With all the very ornate buildings in the background, I found this a scene my camera could not pass up.

I found this 'crib' in a gallery on archinect.com :
1. Should I be concerned for the child's safety?
2. Why does the futurist manifesto come to mind when I look at this?

Time is a hot commodity for me right now, but I'll leave you with a few pictures from my recent project/paper on 'Gordon Row' in Savannah, and a quote.

John Milton's Paradise Lost

A First Sunday Lecture Series sponsored by St. Paul the Apostle Church and SCAD kicked off today with a lecture from SCAD Art History Professor Edwin Johnson titled: John Milton's Paradise Lost, featuring the illustrations of Gustave Dore and William Blake from the Age of Romanticism. I felt like the lecture did a great job to abbreviate the story through the artwork, and also brought up some interesting thoughts in my head on how things are personified. It was a bit long over all, but the Professor was entertaining. It is the first of three lectures planned to round out 2009. The lecture brought up issues in how the plot of the story was illustrated. The next lecture is planned for Nov. 1 @ St. Paul the Apostle Church and all are free and open to the public. I can't wait. Gustave Dore

Chatham Cresent-Ardsley Park

I am extremely excited about the fact that Savannah's first suburb is turning 100 years old next year. This will present my Research Methods class a great research opportunity and a group project that could possibly lead to publication. We will be exploring the different aspects of the neighborhoods history from the urban plan, stylistic variations, and other more in depth topics. I can't wait to see what this project brings. I've tried to include a picture of the neighborhood I've found around. It's not your typical suburb-that is for sure.
